I recently downloaded and installed 3ds Max I was adding materials to one of my models and it appears I am missing the mental ray materials. I assigned mental ray as the renderer so that is all set. I looked in the material library where 3ds Max folder where is installed and the only material in there is AEC templates.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Are they located somewhere else? Do I need to set up a different user path to point to them? If not, is there any place I can download the materials and add them to the folder? I hate these upgrades. I kinda hating this system of having different Material Libraries in Different Version. So, were you able to find them or download from somewhere?

If you had to re-assign the path, can you please let me know where the mental ray materials are located now for 3ds Max ? I tried looking in the Downloads section to see if I could simply download the materials separately and add to the material folder but I didnt have any luck finding a download.

I also tried searching the forums to see if this has happened to other uses but didnt have much luck with that either. Maybe this is only a rare occurence. Unfortunately, I\’m not sure what to do at this point. I have had the identical problem to you. I still havent found the massive preloaded materials but what i would recommend is find someone else with the version who has the material library functional and copy and paste theres onto your harddrive and import them. Whenever you assign mental ray as renderer form scanline default you have to restart 3ds Max When you run again you will be able to see complete material library.
